A stronger corrugated board may be necessary for heavy or demanding transport tasks. Seven-layer corrugated board has several interconnected layers of paper. The construction can allow a more stable outer packaging, but must fit the goods and the transport process.
This results in the multilayered structure
Corrugated board combines smooth cover or intermediate papers with corrugated layers. A single-shaft version usually consists of two smooth papers and a wave position. With three shaft layers and four smooth layers, a seven-layer structure emerges. Different wave profiles can be combined for different requirements.
The waves create a distance between the smooth papers and contribute to the stability of shape. Material quality, surface weight, connection and design of the finished box influence the result. The number of layers alone is therefore not a universal specification of stress.
Typical Tasks
- Heavy or large-format products that require a durable outer shell.
- Industrial components and goods with increased packaging requirements.
- Suitable larger loading units with a coordinated floor and interior structure.
- Transport chains with higher mechanical requirements, provided the design is designed.
For light standard goods such packaging can be unnecessarily heavy and material-intensive. The decisive factor is the appropriate quality, not in principle the largest possible number of layers.
The inner packaging remains important
Even a strong cardboard box does not automatically prevent a heavy object from slipping inside. Plan fixation, load distribution, padding and edge protection. Punctual loads can push through a wall or damage the floor. A suitable use or other interior design can be more important here than additional loose filling.
Check dimensions and processing
A thicker cardboard needs more space. Check inner and outer dimensions separately and observe the intended folding and closing method. For recurring tasks, a pattern should be packed completely and evaluated in the actual process. With special loads, expert packaging design makes sense.
Storage and further use
Ordinary corrugated board remains sensitive to moisture. Store flat cuts and finished boxes dry and protected. A heavy construction makes cardboard not automatically waterproof. Before reuse, check edges, soil and permanent deformations.
When purchasing, ask for the concrete data of the box: cardboard quality, design, load requirements and possible additional parts. In this way, a seven-layer packaging can be specifically used where it actually brings a benefit, instead of understanding it as a flat-rate security guarantee.
