Paper formats A3, A4, A5 and A6: Dimensions in millimeters and pixels

From the business letter to the small note sheet: The A-series offers a suitable paper format for many tasks. The dimensions of the leaf are fixed. Its size in pixels, however, depends on the resolution. If you create a print file, you should therefore set format and resolution together.

The dimensions are also available in the Teaching materials of the Deutsche Post in paper and letter formats. The pixel values are calculated from millimetres 25,4 × 300. Curves can vary by one pixel depending on the program.

A4: the familiar office format

A4 is common for letters, invoices, reports and many forms. The sheet measures 210 × 297 mm. For folders and document bags you need a little more space than the pure paper dimension. A packaging with exact 210 × 297 mm Inside would be too scarce for a stack or a folder.

A3: more space for plans and design

A3 measures 297 × 420 mm and offers the double area of an A4 sheet. It is suitable for posters, drawings, tables and presentation material. Before printing, check whether the device supports A3. A5 and A6: handy formats

A5 with 148 × 210 mm is practical for notebooks, planners and small brochures. A6 with 105 × 148 mm suitable for cards, short messages and small notebooks. The smaller step is formed by halving along the longer side; the standard dimensions are rounded to whole millimeters.

Why there is no fixed pixel value

A picture with 72 ppi contains for the same sheet less pixels than one with 300 ppi.
