A child-friendly gift packaging can be made from a simple cardboard box and a well-chosen paper motif. If a gift consists of several parts, separate areas help to present the surprise clearly. Adjust shape, weight and decoration to the content and always treat packaging material as packaging.
Arrange several gift components clearly
First, place all the components side by side and select a box into which they fit without pressure. Small parts can be in their own, easy-to-open paper packaging. Larger or heavier objects shall belong down, provided that form and content permit. Check if sensitive surfaces require a soft intermediate layer.
A clear structure saves unnecessary paper layers. Use paper filler material specifically where gaps remain or parts could bump into each other while moving. The gift box should close without squeezing the contents. If several boxes are handed over together, take care of a stable structure instead of a high, unstable tower.
Design with paper and painted motifs
Unicoloured paper can be personally designed with stamps or drawn motifs. A simple animal figure, stars or a name tag can be enough. For a Christmas gift you can choose a matching paper motif. Cut paper pieces cleanly and fasten them so that no hard or pointed elements stand out. With heavily patterned paper, no additional decoration is often necessary.
Silk paper is suitable as a decorative inner layer, but requires a suitable further packaging for sensitive or heavy gifts. Natural paper can be combined with few colored accents. Thus, the design remains easily recognizable, even if the box is to be reused later or stored without elaborate ornaments.
Grinding and loose decoration consciously select
Tapes, foils and small pendants are not toys. Remove such parts before giving an infant the gift and accompany the unpacking in small children. Do not use packaging as a replacement for an age-appropriate storage of the gift. The actual content and its instructions for use remain decisive.
For an uncomplicated handover, you can choose glued paper motifs instead of loose small parts. Avoid very long ribbon loops and decorations that fall off easily. A removable loop or banderole can be removed before handover, while the box itself remains neatly designed. Scissors and other packing tools shall be returned to their intended place after packing.
Plan the surprise without unnecessary packaging
Several interlocking boxes can be part of a gift idea, but increase the material requirement and make it difficult to open. Check that a single box with separate areas fulfils the same purpose. A short personal message also makes a simple design special. Finally, check whether the package can be worn comfortably and the decoration does not hang on the gift when opening.
