A hand-held roller guides packing tape over a roll and separates it with a cutting edge. If the roller is correctly inserted, a carton can be closed more evenly. The exact belt path differs depending on the model; therefore, the guide of the unwinder remains the most important orientation.
Matching the role and the reeler
Before inserting, check the permissible bandwidth, core diameter and space for the roll. A tape that does not fit mechanically should not be used by force. Different rollers are intended for packing tape, office tape or other applications. A similar look does not mean that they take up the same rolls.
Remove the empty core and loose tape remnants according to the user manual. Check the belt path and the guide role for disturbing residues. Work carefully on the cutting edge; depending on the design, a protective cover may be present. Fingers don’t belong on the knife when threading.
Pulling the band through the lead
Set the new roll in the rolling direction specified for your model to the recording. Solve the beginning of the band and pull off a short piece that can be run well. The tape is then brought to the pressure roller and cutting edge through the guides provided for this purpose. If necessary, use the intended opening of a holding flap.
In the case of usual hand-held scooters, the non-adhesive back is running over the guide roller; the adhesive side shows to the later cardboard surface. Check this direction using the model instructions. A misguided role can be attached to the guidance or can be difficult to move. Attach the free start to the intended position instead of sticking it over moving parts.
Carefully adjust the roller brake
Many hand-held scooters have an adjustable brake. It influences how easily the roll turns when glued. Start with a setting where the tape runs evenly. If the brake is too loose, unnecessarily a lot of tape can take off. If it is too tight, the application is exhausting and the carton can be moved while pulling.
Change the setting in small steps and check the result on a carton. The direction of rotation and the position of the adjustment screw are model-dependent. A hanging roller should first be checked for wrong guidance or an inappropriate roller, instead of adjusting the brake further and further.
Make a test run before packing
Guide the dispenser over a clean, dry cardboard surface. The tape should run off without lateral slipping and can be separated with the intended movement. Then press the bonding if necessary. The roller facilitates processing; the durability of the closure also depends on the strip, the board surface and the operating conditions. Keep the tool after work in such a way that no one unintentionally touches the cutting edge.
