Design your own gift boxes: nine practical shapes

The shape of a gift box can fit the occasion and content without being particularly complicated. A small accessory needs a different box than several jointly handed over products. First, select the size and protection you need. Self-designed boxes are above all presentation packaging; for heavy content and shipping, appropriately tested packaging is the better basis.

Four simple shapes for small gifts

The first option is a rectangular box with a separate lid. It can be designed calmly and well complemented with a pendant. Secondly, a flat pillow box is suitable for light, small contents. Thirdly, an open paper tray offers a clear space for several small items already packaged. A band or wrapping holds the presentation together.

The fourth form is a square folding box. Work with a comprehensible template and first transfer folding and cutting lines to a test piece. Before designing, check whether the lid and the floor fit together. A form should take up the content without pressing it. Tip items need a suitable inner packaging and must not penetrate paper walls.

Fifthly, you can design a round box if there is a solid floor and a cleanly closed side wall. Six, a telescopic box of two interlocking parts offers a variable height. Seventh, a drawer box is a nice solution for flat objects. Make sure that the drawer is easy to move and does not slip out while wearing.

Achtens is a simple folding box with flap for light content. Ninth, several small inner boxes in a larger box can form a coordinated set. Not every construction has to be built entirely by itself: a matching finished box can also be designed personally with paper, a tape or an individual banderole. This often saves time and avoids inappropriate proportions.

Test dimensions, adhesive seams and opening

Plan material thickness and folding additives with it. The outer dimension of a cut does not automatically correspond to the later usable interior. In the case of glued joints, the adhesive must dry completely. An additional insert can present small gifts neatly, but may not serve to make a too weak box for heavy goods supposedly resilient.

Only use the real gift when the construction is stable and all seams are closed. Check where the receiver can open the box and whether decoration blocks this spot. If the gift box is to be sent, it will receive a separate shipping package with appropriate fixation. Thus, the design remains a part of the presentation, while a separate design takes over the transport protection.
