Film delivery bags are lightweight, space-saving and fast to close. In particular, soft, slightly shock-sensitive goods can be practically shipped in it. For fragile or pressure sensitive items, the shipping bag, on the other hand, requires additional protective measures or other outer packaging.
This is how a shipping bag is built up
The film forms a flexible shell with welded sides and an opening for filling. The flap is often covered with a self-adhesive strip. Eye-tight versions hide the content, but do not offer any special protection against unauthorized opening. You can find the concrete closure and material properties in the product description.
Multilayer films can be more resistant than very thin bags. However, check material strength and resilience in relation to the content. Even a strong bag can be pierced by sharp corners or pointed parts.
Which products are suitable for foil bags?
- Textiles and other soft goods that do not require rigid outer packaging.
- Already sufficiently protected individual products, provided that the shipping service accepts this packaging.
- Documents with a matching inner folder, if kink protection is necessary.
- Returns if the bag expressly has a second adhesive tape for this purpose.
Books, electronics, cosmetic bottles and toys each need a separate assessment. The protection against superficial moisture makes a foil bag neither pressure-resistant nor automatically antistatic. For glass and ceramics, a stable cardboard box with padding is usually the more suitable basic construction.
Determine the Right Measure
Measure the length, width and thickness of the packaged content. A flat pocket loses usable width as soon as a thick object is inserted. Therefore, leave room for the height of the goods and the closing flap. Check if the specified dimensions include the flap. A sample copy is particularly useful with regular shipping.
The bag should be closed without tension. Insert the contents, remove the cover of the adhesive strip and press the flap evenly on a clean, dry surface. Wrinkles and overcrowded pockets can affect the closure.
Buy online or on site?
Online, you can easily compare sizes, film thicknesses and sales units. On site, the material can be touched directly and a product can be inserted. Check with a packaging retailer in your area about availability; from a general recommendation no secured stock of a particular business follows.
For larger quantities, take into account consumption per week, required storage space and post-delivery time. A matching bag can reduce packing time and material weight. However, do not buy exclusively after the unit price: Damaged goods and additional packaging can cancel the supposed savings.
Material and disposal
A reference to recycled material, biodegradability or compostability describes different properties. This does not lead to a flat-rate disposal in the biotonne. Check the material information and local rules. Undamaged bags with appropriate opening may be reused; old shipping information must be removed before re-shipment.
