Stretch foil helps to hold goods together and cover surfaces while storing or transporting them. Due to its stretchability, it nestles on a packaging structure. However, it does not replace a durable carton or a suitable interior padding.
Which variant is needed?
Distinguishing hand stretch film, machine stretch film and narrow bundle film. Machine foil must fit the system used. For manual packaging, roll format, handle or scooter and the weight of the roll are important. Narrow rolls are suitable for bundling smaller units, provided that the contents are not damaged.
Transparent foil makes labels visible. Eye-tight variants hide the content more strongly. Colors can help with the internal assignment, but are not proof of certain technical properties. Foil thickness, elongation and penetration resistance should be tested on the basis of product data.
Evaluate prices by comparable quantities
When comparing by kilogram, you need to know whether the specified weight includes the roll core. A heavier roll does not necessarily contain more usable film. Roll length, width and thickness are equally important. Also take into account the material consumption per packaged unit.
Old Złoty prices from the original are not suitable as a current Euro price. Use the valid product offers and pay attention to gross or net data, sales units and shipping costs. If there is a recurring need, a comparison with a sample consumption at the packing site can be more helpful than the pure roll price.
The inner packaging remains crucial
First select a suitable outer box. Sensitive objects are padded and protected against movement. Small spaces can be closed with suitable paper or other fillers. Heavy components may require a firmer fixation. The film around the outer packaging does not solve this problem.
To close the carton, you need a suitable packing tape or the intended integrated closure. A unwinder facilitates an even packing process. Excessive film layers increase consumption without necessarily creating additional protection.
Food and special applications
Ordinary packaging stretch film must not be used solely for direct food contact due to its name. The concrete material must be suitable for this. Also as “paper stretch” offered alternatives are own products with different properties; they cannot be accepted unchecked in any process.
Where to buy and test what?
Packaging retailers often offer several formats and qualities. In the case of a sample, check whether the film can be rolled off in a controlled manner and processed on the intended structure. Sharp edges may require additional protection. Labels must remain visible and legible on the finished package. For larger loading units, the entire securing process should be planned to match the goods.
