In the case of a mattress, the large dimensions and the unmanageable shape determine the packaging requirements. The surface should remain clean, while the packaging takes friction and possible damage into account when wearing. First, clarify the type of transport and instructions of the mattress manufacturer before selecting a shell or outer packaging.
Capture dimensions and clarify transport conditions
Measure the length, width and height of the mattress and then consider the additional space required for the finished packaging. Also determine the actual weight. These values form the basis for a specific request from the transport service provider. A general package size specification is not sufficient for such a bulky item.
Have acceptance conditions, handling and any external packaging required confirmed. Check whether the transport offered fits the dimensions and shape. Depending on the situation, a suitable furniture transport can be more appropriate than an ordinary parcel service. No commitment to acceptance by a particular service provider follows from the choice of a foil cover.
Cover the mattress clean and dry
Just pack a dry mattress. Remove loose dirt and work on a clean base. A sufficiently large mattress cover suitable for use facilitates wrapping without touching the cover with adhesive tape. Glue closures and supplements as far as possible to the packaging, not to the mattress fabric.
Make sure that the shell is not overstretched when it is absorbed. Leave enough material at the openings to be able to close them according to the intended procedure. The case protects against contamination, but does not replace edge protection and any necessary sustainable outer packaging. Check contact points where friction can occur during transport.
Rolls or folds only with manufacturer approval
The fact that a mattress was originally delivered compressed does not mean that you can pack it yourself later in the same way. Construction, age and used materials may require different handling. Rolls, wrinkles or strong compressions are only possible if the manufacturer expressly allows this for the concrete mattress.
If such a release is missing, plan with the existing dimensions. Do not pull strapping straps directly over sensitive surfaces and use the packaging untested as a carrying handle. Match carrying aids and the position during transport with the specifications for the mattress and with the performing service provider.
Check finished packaging before handover
Look through all sides on holes, open spots and protruding adhesive strips. Check the outer dimensions again and apply the required markings visibly. Photographs of the prepared packaging can help you document the condition. Organize a free transfer path and provide sufficient support for safe moving of the bulky object.
