Food foils can cover food, wrap portions or supplement suitable containers. However, the materials differ in their handling and in the intended applications. It is therefore crucial to label the specific product: a film for cold food is not automatically suitable for heating or vacuuming.
Use transparent clasp wrap suitable
Transparent clasp wraps are made of: PE or PVC ==References== They reveal the contents and can be used to cover suitable vessels or to wrap food intended for them. How well a film adheres and which foods may come into contact with it, you can find in the manufacturer’s details. Do not derive the suitability solely from the material reduction.
Cut only the required amount and place the foil over the container without dirty edges. With recurring portions, a suitable reusable container with lid can be more practical. Label packaged foods in such a way that content and packaging date remain recognizable even when several similar portions are in the refrigerator.
Select aluminium foil after instructions for use
Aluminium foil is opaque and can be easily adapted to the shape of a suitable food or container. Whether you are allowed to use it for a specific content or when heating is the result of the instructions for use. Different surfaces and strengths do not justify a general recommendation for each food and temperature.
Do not use aluminium foil alone due to general kitchen instructions for dressing appliances. Also check the instructions of oven, microwave or other device. For films with a special coating, requirements may be different than for uncoated products. If information remains unclear, select a container or cover with explicitly appropriate purpose.
Differentiating sachets, cuts and dispensers
A food bag, a plastic film from the roll and a vacuum bag perform different tasks. For a weld, foil and welding device must fit together. For vacuum packaging, the bag structure required by the device is also important. An ordinary thin film cannot be easily exchanged for a vacuum bag.
In the case of dispensers, roll width and recording system must be correct. A clean roll-off area facilitates even cutting. Keep the cutting edge free and observe the safety and cleaning instructions of the device. Opened rolls should be protected from contamination and stored separately from foils for general shipping operations.
Packaging does not replace safe storage
A cover does not easily make perishable foods durable. Keep the required cooling and observe storage instructions for the respective food. The Bundesinstitut für Risikobewertung explains the importance of hygienic processing and correct cooling. A general foil recommendation does not provide a binding retention period.
