A flat box saves storage space, but must be set up correctly before filling. The appropriate order depends on its design. An ordinary folding box is closed differently than a punched folding box or a box with automatic bottom. Use existing mounting instructions and do not force folding that works against the intended groove lines.
Set up a folding box perpendicularly
Open the flat cardboard on the sides and align the four walls. Check if all corners are approximately perpendicular. First fold the smaller flaps inside on the ground and then the larger ones over it. The outer flaps should fit together without strong pressure. If the carton is warped, correct the shape before glueing.
Close the bottom seam with a packing tape suitable for surface and load. If the packaging is specified, the side edges are additionally covered. Press the tape evenly and check the floor from the inside. Only then do you put upholstery and merchandise in it. A only temporary closed floor can rise when lifting.
Build punched folding boxes according to their flaps
In a folding box, sides, lids and connecting flaps are often made of a single cut. First fold along the grooves and set up the side walls. The flaps are inserted into the intended slots or held by wall parts. If parts do not fit together, check the orientation of the cut instead of shortening the flaps.
A correctly constructed box lies flat on its floor and retains its shape. The lid should close without pressing the sides outwards. A plug-in closure can hold the box together, but is not automatically a sufficient shipping closure. Check whether the manufacturer provides for an additional sealing or an outer shipping box.
Final testing of automatic floor and load
An automatic floor unfolds with suitable models when the flat cardboard is positioned perpendicularly. However, check whether the floor parts are fully locked in or correctly interlocked. Do not reach under tension between the flaps. For the permissible load, the information on the respective box is decisive, not only the name automatic floor.
First, place the cardboard on a flat surface empty. Check soil, seams and damaged grooves. Fill it without overload and then close the lid according to the design. An additional padding remains necessary if the product is shock-sensitive. Careful folding is the basis of a packaging, but does not replace the appropriate board quality.
