A conveyor belt roller connects rolling, pressing and cutting in one tool. This saves grips when the device, tape and workflow fit together. Before buying, bandwidth, core diameter, roll diameter and the desired use should be checked.
Handheld device or desk dispenser?
A hand-held scooter is guided directly over the carton and is suitable for longer closure strips. A desk dispenser holds the tape at a fixed workstation and facilitates short sections, for example for documents or small packaging. Larger production volumes may require a different process or a suitable sealing machine.
Also evaluate the weight and grip. A heavy device can be robust, but it can be exhausting for longer work. Metal and plastic parts must be assessed by their design; the material alone does not say much about durability and ease of use.
These dimensions must match
- The permissible bandwidth of the device and the actual roll width.
- The inner diameter of the core.
- The maximum outer diameter of a full roll.
- The suitability for the band type used and, where appropriate, its special rolling resistance.
A handroller built for plastic packing tape is not automatically suitable for wet adhesive tape. Paper tape without water-activated adhesive can in turn have different requirements than classic foil tape. Please note the manufacturer’s description of both products.
Insert roller and adjust brake
Follow the instructions for insertion and threading. The adhesive side must run in the intended direction. Adjust the roller brake so that the belt rolls off in a controlled manner without having to be pulled unnecessarily. Too high tension makes it difficult to guide and can strain the closure; too little tension causes loops.
Try setting on an empty sample box. The tape must be laid clean and applied with appropriate pressure. Check especially edges and intersections of closure strips.
Working safely
The cutting edge is sharp. Do not reach into your workspace and place the device in such a way that no one can accidentally grasp it. Replace damaged parts only according to manufacturer’s instructions. A blade protection can improve handling, but does not replace careful handling.
Cleaning and comparison
Adhesive residues and dust on rollers or guides affect the barrel. Clean only with suitable tools for the device. Regularly check roller mount, brake and cutting edge. Compare devices with the tape actually used and a typical cardboard box; the number of unnecessary handles is often more meaningful than a flat-rate promise of speed.
